Reaching the Hearts of Your Children

Cornerstones of parenting

As young couples, we start our families with many good intentions. We dream of what our family, our marriage, and our kids will be like. But as life happens and our kids grow, parenting presents new and tough challenges. Marriages become stressed, and our precious little ones are not so precious anymore. As a pediatrician for over thirty years, I have seen firsthand that parents’ expectations often fall short.

Why? Because life can be difficult, and parenting is tough. We can easily get stuck in a pattern of bribing, threatening/repeating, time-outs, and ineffective consequences that lead only to frustration.

In CORNERSTONES of Parenting, we present you with an alternative. We believe that the Bible provides, with certainty, ethical principles and practical applications for successful parenting. Through a better understanding of the impact of the husband-wife relationship, the importance of defining your family’s values, and a focus on learning how to put values into the heart of your child, we hope to help you realize that you can raise morally responsible children who are a blessing to others.

The First Year

Over thirty years ago when we wrote On Becoming BabyWise, we set out to write a book that would help babies sleep through the night. Since that time, the way our culture views marriage, family, and parenting has radically changed. These changes have led to the breakdown of the traditional family unit. The results speak for themselves. Never before have we seen so much anxiety, depression, and confusion in our youth. By intent or neglect, the mindsets, patterns, and habits developed through your child’s first years have a trajectory.

In CORNERSTONES of the First Year, you will not only realize the joys of a content baby who sleeps through the night, but we will help you lay the foundation for success in parenting. Outlined according to your baby’s pediatric visits, we will give you practical applications that will help build your marriage, get your dad involved, and lay the foundations for moral development along with physical and psychological health.
